Trump strikes a financial agreement, ending the 43-day US closure.

The package, which was approved by Congress earlier in the evening, establishes a potential funding cutoff of January 30 but provides full-year financing for a number of agencies through fiscal 2026. A government funding bill was signed by US President Donald Trump on Wednesday night, officially ending a record 43-day federal closure that hampered food assistance programs, interfered with air travel, and left hundreds of thousands of federal employees unpaid.

Before signing the law in the Oval Office, Trump stated, "It's an honor now to sign this incredible bill."

Republican politicians and a number of former members of Congress who are now in charge of significant business lobbying organizations surrounding him.

The US president declared that the protracted funding breach was "no way to run a country" and that the government "should never shut down again." Earlier in the evening, the House voted to adopt the plan, which was supported by almost all Republicans and a small number of Democrats.

The bill prevents an immediate catastrophe, but it creates a new funding cliff on January 30, when Congress will need to take action once more to prevent a partial shutdown.

For the 42 million Americans who depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), uncertainty persists even as the government starts to reopen. The measure does not indicate when states will be able to put full November benefits into electronic cards that recipients use to buy groceries, even though it reinstates the food aid program.
