Trump has reiterated the April 2 deadline, which might prevent India from receiving reciprocal tariff relief.

The United States would impose "the same tariff they charge us" on India starting on April 2, according to US President Donald Trump. As the deadline draws closer, New Delhi may reduce import levies "substantially."

Trump stated that he "thinks that they (Indian government) are probably going to lower the tariffs substantially" in an interview with Breitbart News. But Trump added, "...but on April 2 we will be charging them (India) the same tariff they charge us," adhering to the April 2 deadline.

The deadline of April 2nd has been reiterated by President Trump. He referred to April 2 as the "liberation day for America" in a post on his own social media platform, Truth Social. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently became a member of Truth Social.
