According to SEBI, trading volumes in the cash equity market have more than doubled between FY23 (when the limitations were introduced) and the current FY25.
The threshold for granular disclosures by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) was raised from Rs 25,000 crore to Rs 50,000 crore by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) board on March 24.
The purpose of these disclosures is to guarantee adherence to PMLA/PMLR regulations.
Between FY 2022–2023 (when the limitations were established) and the present FY 2024–2025, the trading volumes of the cash equity market have more than doubled. A proposal to raise the applicable threshold from the current Rs 25,000 crore to Rs 50,000 crore was agreed by the Board in light of this. According to the Sebi statement, FPIs with more than Rs 50,000 crore in equity AUM in the Indian markets would now have to make further disclosures as outlined in the circular dated August 24, 2023.
