Sensex drops for the fifth straight session

Following weak global indications, the benchmark Indian stock market, the Sensex, finished Thursday, March 13, in the negative for the fifth straight session.

The Nifty 50 ended the day at 22,397.20, down 73 points, or 0.33 percent, while the Sensex closed 201 points, or 0.27 percent, lower at 73,828.91.

But during the last five days, the 30-stock index has managed to avoid a steep decline, only dropping by roughly 0.70 percent.

On Thursday, the Nifty 50, which had increased 1.2% in March, continued to lose for the second straight session. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices fell 0.77 percent and 0.62 percent, respectively, as the mid and small-cap categories continued to perform poorly.
