US President Donald Trump, who is pursuing a crackdown on illegal immigration, said he would “offer money and a plane ticket” to anyone who willingly leaves the country. In a change from his usually severe attitude on immigration, he also indicated interest in establishing a pathway for those he views as "good" people to return.
Trump, who ran on a promise to carry out mass deportations, stated in a taped interview with Fox Noticias that aired Tuesday that his administration is currently focusing on getting "murderers" out of the country, according to the Associated Press. However, he stated that he would put in place "a self-deportation program" for those who are in the United States illegally. A video of a Mexican guy who allegedly entered the US illegally more than 20 years ago and now has American-citizen children was shown to former President Trump by Rachel Campos-Duffy, an interviewer on Fox News and the wife of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
Although the man's present legal status is unknown, Campos-Duffy claimed that despite his inability to vote, he expressed support for Trump. The man in the video concurred that criminals, including himself, need to be deported. What's Trump's strategy?
Trump stated that the US will pay for immigrants' flights and stipend, but he gave few other information about the idea, including when it would be implemented.
We will provide them with a stipend. We will provide them with a plane ticket and some cash, and if they behave well, we will work with them to get them back in as soon as possible, Trump stated.
