India's high taxes on American commodities, especially those related to agriculture and alcohol, have once again drawn criticism from the US. When asked about trade problems with Canada during a news briefing on Tuesday, White House news Secretary Karoline Leavitt brought up these concerns.
Citing excessively high tariff rates, Leavitt criticized trade policies enforced by a number of nations, including Canada, India, and Japan. "Canada has been imposing nearly 300 percent tariffs on American cheese and butter," she said. For example, India has a 100 percent tariff on agricultural products and a 150 percent levy on American alcohol, which hinders Kentucky's bourbon exports to India. In contrast, Japan imposes an astounding 700 percent tariff on rice imports. Leavitt presented a graphic at the briefing that showed the tariff rates levied by other nations, including India. The high charges were conspicuously marked by the Indian tricolor. She said, "President Trump believes in fair trade, and it's time we have a leader who prioritises American businesses and workers," emphasising US President Donald Trump's dedication to implementing reciprocal trade policies.

"India has agreed to cut its tariffs way down," he said Friday, restating his long-standing accusation that the nation places unreasonably high barriers to American goods.
